Welcome to the Township of DuPage
Township government, established in Providence, Rhode Island in 1636, is the oldest form of government continuing to function in North America.
In Illinois, township government began in 1849. The Illinois Constitution of 1848 allowed voters in each county to choose to establish township government. Today 85 of the 102 counties in Illinois operate under the township form of government. There are currently 1433 townships in the state serving more than 8 million people. Illinois townships are required by law to perform three functions:
- General assistance
- Property assessment
- Road and Bridge maintenance
Our township also provides a variety of other services beyond the mandated functions including; senior services, senior and disabled transportation, youth and family services, food pantry, notary public, marriage licenses and emergency assistance, to name a few.
As Supervisor, it is my job to serve as Supervisor of General Assistance and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, township treasurer/ ex-officio treasurer of Road & Bridge funds, and CEO of the township office. It is my responsibility to make sure all aspects of the township run smoothly.
DuPage Township has a very dedicated Board of Trustees and Elected Officials as well as an excellent, well informed Staff. I am very proud of the work they do here and hope that you will be too!
We are proud to annouce two new FREE programs that the Township is offering:
- Credit Counseling
- ESL programs
If you have any questions or are in need of any services, please call the township a 630.759.1317, or email me at WMayer@DuPageTownship.com
Respectfully Yours,
DuPage Township Supervisor
