General Information
Mission Statement:
DuPage Township in partnership with the community, and through the efforts of dedicated employees and elected officials, will provide township services in an efficient and effective manner in order to preserve and enhance the quality of life for our residents. We are committed to evaluating the needs of the public and shall provide services, which are responsive to the health, safety and general welfare of the community.
What is Township Government?
Townships represent the oldest units of government in North America. The first Township was founded in Providence, Rhode Island in 1636. Here in Illinois, township government was adopted in 1848. Annual town meetings are still held the second Tuesday of each April throughout the United States. Residents are encouraged to attend.
Townships are the governmental body most closely linked with residents. Services such as emergency and general assistance, road and bridge maintenance in unincorporated areas, senior services and youth services all play an important role in the community.
FYI?
Property tax dollars underwrite Township services. Less than two percent of all the total amount of property taxes levied, fund all of DuPage Township.
